Analysis

I have chosen The Wolf of Wall Street because its a detailed film and is a easy describable movie and is a massive known movie and talked about a lot in social networking.

Institutional background
Use IMDB to find out the institutions behind your chosen film. Find your film, click on Company Credits and then look for the production company and UK distributor.

1) What was the film studio or production company behind your chosen film? E.g. Warner Brothers, Paramount etc.
 It was Warner Bros

2) Who was the distributor for the theatrical release of the film in the UK?

  •                                Universal Pictures International (UPI)                                                         The UK theatrical release was Universal Pictures International
1) What genre does your chosen film fit into?

It's in the comedy, crime and biography genre.

2) How can you tell it fits that genre? Be specific with reference to the trailer.

The trailer shows money which can always be associated to crime but also shows people trying to find ways to smuggle in money which can be related to action/adventure
3) Is your chosen movie a sequel?
No
t3a) If Yes, how does the film use the original movie or franchise as part of its marketing?

3b) If No, are previous films by the writer, director or star mentioned in the trailer?

Yes its showing of the director "Martin Scorsese" trying to attract attention or convince the audience that its going to be a good movie just cause the trailer said it has an award winning director

1) What was the UK release date for your chosen film?
17th January 20142) When did the first trailer appear on YouTube for your movie? Find the earliest example you can and embed it in your blog.

3) What other examples of marketing (teaser trailers, main trailers, newspaper or TV interviews etc.) can you find for your chosen film from before the film’s release date?

Used billboards to attract attention to their movie. It’s a social thing
1) What was the word-of-mouth like for your chosen film? If you can’t find tweets (probably blocked) use the IMDB user review rating or the Rotten Tomatoes Tomato meter rating to judge whether the public have given the movie a good review.

Rotten Tomatoes Review 77%/100%

One of the reviewers said this "Along with its three-hour runtime, this baggy plotting may make Wolf a somewhat harder sell to audiences but it's a deeper movie than The Departed -- among the best that Scorsese has made."

Another of the reviewers said this also "This iconoclastic, black with a capital b comedy is the best Hollywood satire since Showgirls. A jocular epic that bitingly indicts excess at its highest level possible within contemporary society. DiCaprio kills his performance as the titular Wolf, an abominable creation that deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as De Niro's finest collaborations with Scorsese."

2) Find three quotes (no more than 25 words each) from user reviews of your movie to create a picture of what the public reaction to the film has been. Post them on your blog.

1) The Wolf of Wall Street is a film that speaks to our times, and it is saying some very important    things.

2) A classic tale of the unquenchable thirst of greed...

3) Full of sex, drugs and amoral characters, but it is fascinating to watch.

Use IMDB to find out the box office records for your chosen film. Find your film, click on Company Credits and then Box Office/Business.

1) What was the original budget for your chosen film?

It was a $100 million budget which grossed $392 million dollars.

2) How much money did the film make in the opening weekend?

It made $18.5 million dollars on the opening weekend.

3) How much money has the film made in total? (Look for the subheading ‘Gross’ which has the total box-office earnings listed).

It made a $392 million gross.

Research the stars and director for your chosen film.

1) What films has the director previously directed? Are they in the same or similar genres?

The film he has directed before is Good Fellas which is a similar movie except its the classic mafia with action, violence, crime and money which is really similar to Wolf of Wall Street.

2) Who is the main star in the film?

Leonardo DiCaprio

3) What other films has the main star appeared in? Are any of the films similar to the one you are researching?

"The Great Gasby" is a similar movie to Wolf of Wall Street but its a classic age instead Wolf of Wall street is in the modern era.

4) Are the stars or the director or writer mentioned in the trailer for the film?

Leonardo DiCaprio,Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey is the trailer showing off what actors are in the movie.

Shot-By-Shot Analysis H/W

This shot shows a medium shot trying to show all the police offers to show a intense feeling making sure that their not going to give up so easily but they all seem surprised like they saw a ghost.

This is a wide angle shot showing a rusty old car but at the same time a action scene going on trying to make sure the viewer think that this isn't all futuristic.

This is a close up of our star Tom Cruise and shows him looking in a weird direction. This makes the viewer seem agile to know what Tom Cruise is staring at and wants the camera man to show that direction aswell.

LIAR: BMW "Joy is Timeless"

LIAR
Language: Its showing a classic BMW car which was made years ago but still looks amazing compared to modern cars they make. Its telling the audience that if you buy a BMW car it will look amazing no matter how old. This has synergy with the "Joy is timeless" expression. The main convention that the audience sees is the BMW logo at the top right corner. The key image is the classic BMW car. This car was probably chosen to show that no matter how old a BMW car gets it will stand out and look good. It's telling rival car companies that BMW puts more heart into their car designing.Another logo which says "BMW EffiecientDynamics Less emissions. More driving pleasure" presents that you can enjoy having a BMW car without polluting the air and buying less fuel.

Institution: BMW a car company is telling rival car makers that you will never get bored of a BMW car similar to their slogan "Joy is timeless" meaning that boredom is impossible in a BMW car.Telling the public that their cars are better then for example a Mercedes car or an Audi.

Audience: The target audience for this print advert is aimed at %90 men but %10 female since. The age range is small since not everyone can drive a car so it will be between 21-60 for this advert. This advert might be aimed at wealthy people since middle class people probably won't be able to afford a classic car but telling them that any BMW car joy's is timeless.

Representation: The representation for this advert is massively aimed at mainly male car lovers or wealthy people. This advert didn't contain any male/female so that they don't stereotype people and make them think that BMW only aims at specific people even thou they do as I mentioned before.By adding the BMW logo people will recognise the brand instantly.
